General Information
Founded in 1886, the district encompasses an area of approximately 77 square miles in the north portion of Pima County. The unincorporated community of Tanque Verde is the geographical and population center of the District and is located 14 miles east of downtown Tucson.

Approximately 435 grade 10-12 students currently attend classes at Sabino High School and other District #1 high schools. Tanque Verde district pays the tuition costs and transports the students daily. Some students attend other area public high schools, Tanque Verde district pays the tuition, but it is up to the student's family to provide transportation.
Educational Information
Recognized as one of the finest school systems in the Tucson area, the district's students annually score above the national, state, and county nonns of the State's mandated standardized achievement tests.
Four teachers have been awarded Teacher-of-the-Year honors by various state organizations (Librarian-of-the-Year, Special Education Teacher-of-the-Year, Environmental Teacher-of-the-Year, and the prestigious Christa McAuliff Award).
In 1992, the district was accepted through a competitive process to be one of seven additional school districts to participate in the Arizona Career Ladder Project. Only 29 districts in the state have been accepted to participate in this project.
Transportation
Bus services are provided to and from school. The only requirement is that the student must live one mile or more from the school for this service.
Other Programs
Special Education: For those pupils who have those specific learning difficulties which are identified through a process prescribed by federal and state laws.
K-3 Academic Assistance: For pupils who are in need of extra assistance in the areas of math, reading, or language arts.
Title I Reading: At Tanque Verde Elementary for qualified students in grades I through 6.
Gifted Education: Students follow an individual plan designed by the pupil, parents, teachers and program coordinator.
Limited English Proficient Education: Provides assistance to those pupils who come from a background in which their primary language may be one other than English.
